Our History
A Legacy Built By Family & Carried On Through History
Clancy & Theys Construction Company was founded in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1949 by brothers-in-law E.I. Clancy and Johnny Theys. When leadership was passed down to Mr. Clancy’s sons, David T. “Tim” Clancy and Joel T. “Tick” Clancy, the new leaders expanded to several additional locations and helped shape the company for the modern era of construction. In 2022, a new era of leadership emerged at Clancy & Theys. Baker Glasgow, a proven leader for many years, took over as President following David T. “Tim” Clancy’s retirement. Under our new leadership, we continue to develop and empower talented teams to provide innovative solutions while delivering an exceptional Clancy & Theys experience.

Safety is critical. At Clancy & Theys, it’s a core value. We have an uncompromising commitment to working safely — every day and on every jobsite. By partnering with OSHA and industry safety committees, we’re able to protect our workers and advance our mission to be good neighbors and good stewards of construction safety. We submit our safety information to Associated Builders and Contractors every year, and we’ve achieved Diamond Level in safety for the last several years. Our goal is to make sure our colleagues go home to their families every night.
As advocates for our clients and construction partners, we carefully manage their resources and funding to produce the best possible outcome in construction. As good stewards, we ensure that we are engaging with our local communities responsibly and sustainably — by hiring minority- and women-owned small businesses, pursuing community initiatives, and more. We’ve become a regional leader in sustainable construction and green building design and delivery. As a sustainable construction company, we’re dedicated to building a more sustainable future.
As a team, we’re passionate about building the future. We want to help enhance communities through our state-of-the-art construction practices, but we also want to invest in the future of our people. To foster and grow our collective enthusiasm, we encourage every member of the team to pursue educational opportunities that excite them. That’s one of the reasons so many of our employees have longer-than-average tenures here. We love to see our team members grow through the ranks at Clancy & Theys. Additionally, we’re proud that many of our people serve in industry organizations and work with local community service groups.
Collaboration is one of the keys to our success. For every project we take on, we encourage all of our team members and trade partners to be proactive in voicing their ideas. By working closely with our trade partners and clients, we’re able to bring diverse and unique ideas to the table, which results in a stronger project overall. To help streamline our collaboration process, we use innovative technology, including building information modeling services. Collaboration is also an innate part of our internal Clancy & Theys teams. Although we have many office locations, we operate as one cohesive unit to pool resources, learn from each other, and grow.
