Clancy & Theys Construction Company is providing construction services for the Lenoir Community College (LCC) New Aviation Center for Excellence (ACE). Under the guidance of the State Construction Office, and designed by JKF Architecture, the project consists of a new 57,024 SF, 2-story aviation building located at the North Carolina Global TransPark in Kinston. The state-of-the-art training facility will offer aviation-related education and workforce development. The facility will include an aircraft hangar, modern classrooms, and advanced maintenance laboratories.
Program specific training spaces in the new facility will include aviation-focused welding area, reciprocating engine lab, turbine engine lab, engine component lab, sheet metal lab, air frame lab, electrical lab, avionics lab, paint labs, virtual labs, flight school, and a flight simulator room, and will capable of housing multiple unfueled aircraft. The facility also includes faculty offices, modern classrooms, conference rooms, storage rooms, shops/workrooms, reception/lobby, administrative space, lounge, vending/coffee bar, associated mechanical, fire riser, data, electrical rooms, and a roof observation deck. The building is designed to have direct access to the GTP runway and will simulate many real-world conditions associated with the aerospace industry.
Construction elements consist of steel building frames, CMU/brick veneer, cold-formed metal framing, metal wall panels, translucent wall panels, both metal and TPO roofing, 100’x20’ hydraulic doors, a FAA grade concrete apron, and sitework development.
LCC offers a two-year degree in Aviation Management and Career Pilot Technology as well as diploma and certificate programs. The program provides students with a foundation for a rewarding career in the aviation industry including the commercial airlines, general private aviation, the military, and state and federal aviation organizations. This project will generate many new, high-paying jobs that will fuel economic growth for Eastern North Carolina for years to come.
