Our History
Clancy & Theys Construction Company was founded in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1949 by brothers-in-law E.I. Clancy and Johnny Theys. Since then, Clancy & Theys has grown into an industry leader, listed among the largest builders in the United States. Our headquarters remains in Raleigh, but over the years we have expanded to additional locations across the Southeast.
A Company That’s Grown Alongside America
During the post-World War II construction boom, we concentrated on residential construction but soon after pivoted our focus to commercial work. Over the years, our reputation has grown as a top builder of office buildings, life sciences construction, hotels, cultural buildings, healthcare construction, multi-family residential, mixed-use, reconstruction and renovations, and more. We’ve long been lauded for our ability to handle a diverse range of projects. Our many specialties include adaptive reuse of vintage buildings, and renovation and preservation of historic buildings.
Today, Clancy & Theys is led by President Baker Glasgow and Executive Vice President Joel T. “Tick” Clancy. Take a walk through our history to learn how we developed and grew over the 20th century and into the 21st century.
