Clancy & Theys Construction Company is proud to announce the promotion of Brian Viau to vice president of construction for the Virginia Division. Viau, a nearly 20-year veteran of the company, succeeds Dean Conklin, who recently retired after a 33-year exemplary career.
Viau’s promotion builds on his proven track record of delivering complex projects and fostering strong client relationships throughout his tenure at Clancy & Theys. Together with Division Manager Chad Cowger, Viau will guide the 85-person Virginia Division, championing initiatives to drive growth and excellence across the region. “Brian’s leadership and our collaborative approach will be key to driving our division’s success. We’re excited to work together to continue Clancy & Theys’ tradition of excellence in Virginia,” said Cowger.
“Brian’s deep understanding of our culture, his exceptional leadership, and his proven track record with clients make him the ideal person to help lead the Virginia Division into the next phase of success,” said Baker Glasgow, president of Clancy & Theys Construction Company. “His two decades of experience managing complex projects and building lasting client relationships position us well for continued growth and success in Virginia.”
Viau’s introduction to Clancy & Theys began with a memorable encounter with Senior Superintendent Bob Barker, who discussed an internship opportunity with him in a “truck window to truck window” conversation at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. During this project, Viau met retired Virginia Division Manager and Vice President Bill Goggins, who retired from a decades-long career at Clancy & Theys in 2023 and later became one of his instructors at Old Dominion University. Viau officially joined Clancy & Theys after graduating with a degree in construction management. He began his career working on high-profile projects, including the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach and the Casino Club at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. He went on to lead projects across a variety of sectors, from multifamily and hospitality to healthcare.
“I’ve always felt fortunate to be part of a company that values mentorship, strong relationships, and quality work,” said Viau. “The opportunity to lead this team is truly an honor. I look forward to building on the strong foundation Dean and Bill established, while also looking ahead to adapt to the changes and challenges the industry will bring.”
As the Virginia Division embarks on this new chapter, Viau is focused on maintaining the high standards of quality and service Clancy & Theys is known for while positioning the company to tackle the challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving construction landscape. He is committed to continuing the legacy of leadership that has defined Clancy & Theys’ success while embracing innovation and technology to meet the demands of the future.
