Clancy & Theys Construction Company provided a General Contractor for VC East Campus, Criminal Justice Institute.
The basic program consisted of 74,300 SF of administration, laboratory and physical fitness requirements, as well as a teaching auditorium and a café. The building’s primary structural system is steel frame construction. The exterior cladding is a mixture of metal panel, curtainwall and architectural precast concrete panels.
This project is a higher educational facility whose overriding requirement was to create a permanent educational facility that would replace the 13 portable units from which the College offered its criminal justice training program. Additionally, the second floor, consisting of 21,700 SF, was designed to consolidate the offices of the College’s HR Department, which heretofore had been spread out in various campuses. This facility was also the first building completed on a new campus. The project won the 2008 First Place/Blue Ribbon Award from the Florida Educational Facilities Planners Association in the Community College Category.
This project was constructed on an existing and active campus; therefore a detailed site utilization plan was developed with input from the administration and faculty.
