Liebherr Mining Equipment Manufacturing Plant

Overview

Clancy & Theys is proud of its decades-long relationship with Liebherr Mining Equipment. Over the last several years, we have completed multiple projects on their Newport News campus.

Nextgen Coating Facility
The new 40,000 SF building, which stands 48 feet on the low side and 50 feet on the high side, provides Liebherr with a dedicated space for preparing large components and assembling vehicles for coating and painting. The facility includes a prefabricated two-story office area featuring a conference room, bathrooms, and a mezzanine – all requiring detailed coordination with various trades. Additionally, the project involved meticulous collaboration with the manufacturers of the specialized blast and paint booths to ensure the seamless integration of the equipment.

Canopy Addition
This project included a 46,000 SF pre-engineered metal canopy addition to an existing warehouse, which serves as a manufacturing plant for mining and construction-related equipment for Liebherr. This design-build project also entailed doubling the number of loading docks and changing their orientation to the building, upgrading the existing power to add power to the new extension, and plumbing and electrical services for a new bathroom. Concrete pavement was laid down to allow for more container storage opportunities. These upgrades to this facility allowed Liebherr to improve their shipping capabilities and quality. The existing facility remained operational throughout the project, so it was crucial that we remained mindful of the workers and understood their work/shipment schedule.
