Clancy & Theys is blessed with many talented, dedicated and hardworking employees. The individuals who make up the Clancy & Theys team are the main reason the company has been a market leader for the last 70 years.
Today, the spotlight is on Philip May, Senior Project Superintendent, who works out of the Wilmington office. He has 30 years of construction experience, 24 of which have been with Clancy & Theys. His ‘can-do’ attitude has gained him experience that ranges from office buildings and renovations to clubhouse facilities, school, and university buildings. In addition, Philip is considered a Master Carpenter with significant knowledge and expertise in woodworking.
“I’ve had the good fortune to work with Philip May for over 20 years,” said Chip Overman, Director of Operations at the Clancy & Theys Wilmington office. “Philip started as a carpenter and quickly rose through the ranks. I don’t know of another individual who brings Philip’s unique blend of talents to the table.” Since 2011, Chip and Philip have been working together on the Live Oak Bank campus where Philip was the lead superintendent.
“The Live Oak Bank campus is my key project,” said Philip. “Out of all the construction companies out there and all of the superintendents they have; Clancy & Theys is the contractor and I’m blessed to be the superintendent that has gotten to do these projects.” Live Oak Bank hired Clancy & Theys for the first time in 2011 to build their initial headquarters building. As the bank grew, so did their relationship with Philip and Clancy & Theys. Under Phillip’s supervision, Clancy & Theys has constructed three office buildings totaling 155,000 square feet for Live Oak over the past eight years.
“Phillip May is much more than a construction superintendent for the bank—he’s become a valuable partner,” said J.C. Smith, Director of Facilities for Live Oak Bank. “Phillip has a special eye for detail that’s increasingly unique in this role, especially as it has evolved into more of a technician than a craftsman mindset. He doesn’t just respond to issues; he anticipates situations and often initiates solutions even before we are aware. Phillip is accommodating and sensitive to our needs and priorities.”
Philip says that there is no other company he’d rather work with, nor any other team. “We are always treated with respect and are always given the resources we need to be successful. How many companies out there can boost the number of employees that have been around for as long as a lot of us have?” he added.
“Philip’s character is sterling, his honesty unquestioned. His sense of dedication to Clancy & Theys and our clients is unparalleled, added Chip. “I cannot say enough about his tireless efforts to take care of his team, our clients, and, finally, our company. Philip truly exemplifies what we should all strive for.”
Thank you, Philip, for your dedication to excellence.
